Process first, software second
Software makes a process faster, not better. An unclear process just becomes unclear faster.
The test takes ten minutes: describe the process in five sentences. If phrases like “it depends” or “usually so-and-so does that” appear, the process is not ready. Those spots cost money in every rollout later.

Two systems that do not talk to each other produce a person who retypes between them. That person is the real invoice. Before any purchase, one question pays: how does the data get out of here again — and in what format?
