Create account
Clockify Free has allowed unlimited users on the free plan since 2025. Go to clockify.me and sign up with the company email. Skip this step and there is no central time recording.
Add first project
In the dashboard click Projects and create a project with name, client and hourly rate. With three or more simultaneous projects you need the Starter plan at 4.99 USD per user per month. Without this step all times mix later.
Install timer widget
Download the browser extension for Chrome or Edge and sign in. The widget shows running time directly in the bar. Miss the step and you open the website every time.
Tag tasks with labels
Inside a project create tasks and assign labels such as “administration” or “client contact”. Clockify Free stores up to 50 labels for free. Skip this and later reports lack breakdowns by activity type.
Check weekly exports
On Friday export the CSV file and compare it with invoices. An export without prior categorisation delivers unusable numbers.
If your website does not support time tracking, the free check at https://log-sysdev.de/website-check can clarify it. The report lists load times and SEO issues that often appear with self-built tools.
Frequent error at completion
Many users forget to set the project to “archived” after completion. Times then remain visible in all reports and distort the monthly statistics.
