Sorting files with Sorana

Download Sorana

Download the current Sorana version from the CHIP downloads section for office and productivity software. The file size is 48 MB. Skipping this step means the program cannot be installed and file sorting stays manual.

Install the application

Run the downloaded file and follow the installer dialogs. Installation on a Windows 11 machine with SSD takes roughly three minutes. Without this step Sorana is not present on the system.

Activate license

Launch Sorana and enable the free basic tariff. The basic tariff covers up to 5000 files. Skipping it prevents access to the full feature set after thirty days.

Select folders

In the menu choose “Add folder” and point to the main “Documents” directory. Sorana then scans the structure. Omitting this step leaves the AI with no data and no suggestions.

Set rules

Create three custom categories under “Rules”: invoices, contracts and project notes. Each category receives a color and a target path. Without custom rules Sorana relies on defaults that rarely match project needs.

Run scan

Click “Run scan”. Processing 1200 files on a machine with 16 GB RAM takes about seven minutes. A skipped scan leaves files untouched.

Review suggestions

Check the AI proposals in the list. For each entry select keep, edit or reject. Accepting everything without review produces incorrect placements later.

Apply changes

Confirm reviewed suggestions with “Apply”. Files move to new locations. Without confirmation nothing changes on disk.

Fix misplacements

When Sorana misfiles items, open the history and move affected files back manually. This occurs most often with files that lack clear names. This step is frequently overlooked once the scan appears finished.
